Zuke's Mini Naturals Pumpkin Patch Dog Treats

Can you believe it? Turkey day is right around the corner!

One of the trends we're loving is the move by companies to make limited-edition seasonal treats for our four-legged friends. After all, variety is the spice of life - no?

Just in time for this turkey-heavy time of year, Zuke's has put a new flavor of their popular soft snack-sized treats out on shelves. Pumpkin Patch Mini Naturals feature a delicious turkey and pumpkin recipe made from quality, lean protein. Containing pumpkin (one of those powerhouse veggies!), these treats are rich in carotenoids, beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, fiber, zinc, iron, vitamin A and potassium. Pumpkin is also known to be great for helping to correct diarrhea and constipation in dogs.

Don't mind if I do….

Personally, we're big fans - we like to spoil Paddy by varying her diet seasonally. While she definitely gets some canine friendly table snacks around the holidays, Zuke's Minis make it easier to control the portion size and feel confident that what she's eating is doggy diet/stomach appropriate. These soft treats are also great for reinforcing training since they weigh in at less than 4 calories per treat and can easily be broken into tiny morsels.

So, the real moment of truth… was Paddy a fan? YES! She definitely was interested in these treats from the moment we opened the bag.

Look! They're cute pumpkin shapes too!
Available now on shelves from your local pet-retailer or online from Chewy.com.

What are your pet's favorite holiday treats?

Three Dog Bakery Ice Cream Biscuits!

Three Dog Bakery is known for the indulgent dog treats, and just in time for summer have introduced a new ice cream themed line of biscuits! While they offer tasty flavors like Rocky Road and Mint Carob Chip, the two that caught our eyes are their Cookie Dough Ice Cream and Neapolitan!

The Cookie Dough contains a mix of vanilla and cookie dough flavored wafers, while the Neapolitan includes carob, strawberry and vanilla! Yum!

Also, how cute is the packaging!?

Available now from the Three Dog Bakery website for $7.99 each.

I and Love and You's Free Range Bully Stix Reviewed

While on the smaller side, our local Whole Foods actually cares a pretty decent range of healthy options for your pup. As we all know, rawhide is a definite doggy no-no in our household. While most grocery stores stock lots of rawhide options, we were super psyched to discover Whole Foods carries "I and Love and You" free range bully stix. We were not super familiar with the brand, but after doing some research decided to pick up a bag on a recent grocery run.

Sourced from free range Brazilian cattle, "I and Love and You's" chews are high in protein and a good way to naturally support dental health (bye bye tartar). They're also easily digestible (which is why we choose bully stix over rawhide), and help promote healthy joints.

Chewing is my day job.
Paddy is a pretty hard core chewer, however these 6" treats will last her at least a few days. These resealable packs contain five chews, and retail for around $18 or $19 dollars (so that's like $3 and change per chew, WHICH is cheaper than our local fancy pet store's free range stix). We are super interested in checking out some of their other products and snacks, and will be keeping an eye out in for them in the future when we venture to the larger Whole Foods in the neighborhood next door.

For more information, check out "I and Love and You's" website or head to your local Whole Foods. Happy snacking!

Smart Cookie Custom Dog Treats

Over the past year we've received lots of emails about personalized dog food blends that are tailored to your pooch's specific dietary needs. And now it looks like that trend is moving into the treat market! Smart Cookie, which is based out of Colorado, lets you choose the your pup's favorite protein, carb and fruit/veggie and combines them into handmade, freshly baked cookies. Made and sourced in the USA, and all of Smart Cookie's ingredients are human-grade, and include doggy favorites like salmon, flax seed, quinoa, green beans and blueberries. They contain no wheat, no corn, no soy, no by-products and are free of preservatives.

To get started, head to their website to get started customizing your dog's own custom treats. If you're feeling overwhelmed, they've also got some pre-created cookies to select from. Each 9oz box (roughly 50 treats) costs $10, which seems very reasonably priced to us.

Have you gotten on the custom dog food/treat band wagon?

Fruitables Snowflake Dog Treats & Cloudstar Gingerbread Men!

Nom. It's holiday treat time!

Two of our favorite brands have introduced limited edition special treats to spoil that nice (or naughty) pooch in your life.

We have to admit, we're fascinated by these Vanilla Snowflake Treats from Fruitables. Made with REAL snowflakes from the Rockies, each pouch contains over 300 "sustainably harvested" (haha) snowflakes. Combined with pumpkin granola and yogurt, each crunchy treat has only 9 calories making it a more sensible indulgence.

Here are the folks at Fruitables harvesting their snowflakes!

This season, the folks over at Cloudstar have added Gingerbread as a flavor to their popular Buddy Biscuit line. Available in XXL gingerbread man biscuits, soft & chewy and regular crunchy, Buddy Biscuits are made in the USA and are corn free. We are particularly partial to the giant gingerbread man, which in our opinion would make for an excellent stocking stuffer.

All treats featured are available from your local pet stores and online from sites like Amazon.com. Does your dog have any favorite holiday treats?

TailMix Grilled Sirloin Burgers - A Review

It is very rare in this household that we finish a bag of treats. It's not that we want to be wasteful (in fact, we often end up sharing the leftovers with our other canine pals), but what it comes down to is our Morkie is a super fussy eater. (My husband claims she gets this from me…. that is up for debate)

However, the ONE treat that never goes turned down are TailMix's Grilled Sirloin Burgers. Grain and gluten free, these treats are basically freeze dried little patties of USDA certified hormone free ground beef sirloin from Washington state. Made in the USA, you can serve them as is, crumble them on top of your pup's food or even rehydrate for a softer texture.

While Paddy is a big fan of the flavor (I swear she can hear the bag open from across the apartment), we love the transparency into what is in these treats. They're also the perfect size for special rewards (a little bit bigger than a quarter, but smaller than a half dollar). We were going to try and take a photo of Paddy with said treat to provide a sense of size… but she was overwhelmed by the deliciousness before we could snap a pic.

Available from national pet stores and online from Chewy.com. One bag lasts us about a month and a half.

Cheese Please Dog Treats: Reviwed

As you may know from our posts, occasionally the snacks inside our monthly BarkBox are a little hit or miss. Such are the trials of having a small, picky, picky dog…. However, we had a HUGE win with February's box, and it's safe to say Paddy now has a new favorite treat- Complete Natural Nutrition's Cheese Please Dog Treats!

We love it because it contains only ONE ingredient: pure Wisconsin cheese.

Paddy loves it because it contains CHEESE.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!

Lactose and MSG free, these nickel-sized treats weigh in at about 3 calories per snack. They're perfectly sized for our little Morkie, and easy to break into pieces (without the whole thing crumbling). Very reasonably priced (a 7oz box of over 300 treats rings up at $15.99!), we are definitely going to be stocking up.

Available to purchase directly from Complete Natural Nutrition's website and other online retailers.

Beams from @TheHonestKitchen!

Whew. It's been a crazy few weeks, but now that Paddy has returned from a visit with her grandparents, it's time to get testing! As we mentioned in our last post, The Honest Kitchen has rolled out Beams, which are essentially just the dried skins of wild-caught Atlantic Catfish. While we were skeptical at first (dogs like catfish?), Paddy was a big fan and thoroughly enjoyed her Friday afternoon snack. Though the smalls are a little on the big size for our 6lb dog (roughly 6" in length), it's relatively easy to cut them in half with a pair of good kitchen scissors. The only other thing we'd mention is the smell-- while not too strong, or overly fishy, the snacks do have a fish-food-esque scent, though it did not linger for long, nor was it overpowering.

Is your dog a catfish lover? What "exotic" treats do you spoil your pet with?
