Does your pet eat better than you?

p.s. Almost 13 years old and still killing it! #QueenMorkie
If you are a pet parent and use social media, odds are you've been served up an ad at some point in time for a company that offers home delivery of fresh pet food. From The Farmer's Dog to Nom Nom Now, getting healthy, ready-to-serve meals from your pet is now easier than ever. With recipes that are prepared with human-grade ingredients and less preservatives/artificial stuff, there's no question in our mind that these businesses are ushering in a new area of pet dining!

While we are HUGE fans of serving Paddy food that is less processed, we have yet to find a service that meets our needs. Since she's so tiny, getting weekly or bi-weekly deliveries is a little bit overkill - especially as the portion sizes they recommend are way too much for our 7lb doggy. We did stumble up on Grocery Pup, which offers a la carte 3lb bag options, but we've got to figure out the freezer storage situation first (plus $70 is a lot for 6lbs of food).

Do you have a pet food delivery service that you love? We would love our readers to share any recommendations that they may have.

Just Right by Purina

We were recently invited to blog about the latest innovation in pet nutrition from Purina. Introducing, Just Right by Purina - a personalized dog food that combines an owners' first-hand knowledge of their dog and Purina's nutrition research to create the perfect blend to meet your dog's needs. Using information gleaned from specific questions about your dog's age, activity level, health, and body condition, Just Right by Purina then delivers your pooch's custom kibble straight to your front door.

For those pets that have grain or protein sensitivities, owners can also note this- taking the guess work out of what really byproducts could be going into your dog's food.

So, how does it work? It's super simple - head over to JustRightPetFood.com and create a profile for your pet. Next, answer questions about your dog to create your personalized blend, and voila! If you have any questions, Just Right by Purina has live experts on hand via online, chat or email to help.

As a pet parent who pays close attention to what her pup eats, I personally love the idea of knowing what -exactly- is in Paddy's kibble. We love that Paddy's specific needs can also be taken into account, and you can customize each order if necessary (ex. in winter we fight dry skin more frequently). Also, did we mention that all Just Right by Purina custom blends are made in the USA? Yup- in Iowa!

Starting at $24.99 for a 6lb bag (which is on par with the cost of most high-end dry dog food), shipping is included and owners can setup auto-fulfillment.

We are definitely looking forward to checking this out in more detail (as of now I'm traveling on the road for work a lot, so we're not going to mess with Paddy's current diet). What do you think? Is a custom blend of dog food something you'd do for your pup?

Tea Time, Honest Kitchen Style!

Since we've started this blog, we've seen some crazy stuff. We have to confess, that when we first heard about the Honest Kitchen's teas for pets, we were a little bit skeptical. Really? I'm going to brew tea for my dog? Well, yep. That's the idea, and that's exactly what we did.

The kind folks over at HK were generous enough to send us some to try, so this weekend we brewed up a little of HK's Quiet Tea™, which "is designed to help promote calmness and alleviate anxiety, tension and excitability during stressful of over-stimulating situations caused by factors such as separation, thunderstorms, travel, or events."

Science Diet Million Pound Pledge NYC Event 5/6

Alison Sweeney is helping pets slim down for summer! The host of the Biggest Loser, and Hills' Pet Nutrition are kicking off their Hills' Science Diet Million Pound Pledge on May 6th in New York City. Their mission is to help the 54% of chubby pets in the US lose a million pounds via exercise and an improved diet.

Alison and team will be celebrating the start of their Million Pound Challenge in Union Square at 14th Street at 11:00 AM on Friday. In addition to spreading the word about the battle against pet obesity, there will be free pet weigh-ins, Q+A's with Hills' vets, and Science Diet coupons (which will be redeemable at all PetSmart locations-- including the one near Union Square).

Though we've never had to worry about Paddy's weight, we applaud this educational movement. After all, until dogs evolve opposable thumbs, us two-legged folks are responsible for helping them make healthy food choices!
