Global Pet Expo 2017

I swear, one of these years we're going to make it the 2017 Global Pet Expo. I seriously cannot imagine a more fun way to spend a few days than surrounded by tons of cool new pet products!

Even though we won't be in Orlando this week, here's a list of some of the booths you should swing by and check out. It seems like two of the big themes this year are "smart" Internet connected toys and premium/fresh/all natural pet food. There are going to be HUNDREDS of vendors at the Expo, but these are just a few of those that reached out to us in advance that caught our eye:

easyPlay Interactive Pet Toy - Booth 5876
An interactive toy that can be controlled by your smartphone, the easyPlay allows you to monitor your pet, reward them with treats and track their physical activity when you're not home. Featuring a treat dispenser and two-way cameras/microphones, it's an interesting spin on the traditional pet camera.

Portland Pet Food Company - Booth 5974
All-natural, human grade pet food seems to be the standard these days. The folks at Portland Pet Food Company are taking it to the next level with their shelf-stable, sustainably packaged meals for your pup. They make a variety of meals and food toppers that sound pretty tasty!

i and love and you - Booth 1291
This super premium pet food and treat company is one of our favorites! I'm sure they've got lots of excited previews planned for you. We particularly love their odor-less chews!

Under the Weather - Booth 5967
I know... "bland food" isn't something you typically advertise, but for all of those dog parents who have spent hours in the kitchen whipping up chicken and rice for their sick pets, Under the Weather is a convenient solution made of bland stuff and 100% human grade freeze-dried meats.

Get Those Costumes Ready! #SEEPAWS is Almost Here!

It's kind of crazy to think that it's been almost a year since NYC battened down the hatches and prepared to face Hurricane Sandy. While we fortunately escaped the worst of the storm, our friends down at the South Street Seaport weren't so lucky. Some of our favorite haunts like The Salty Paw, have only recently been able to get back on their four paws (which we're so happy about!), which is why we were thrilled to hear about the SEE PAWS Halloween event.

Hosted by sponsors like The Salty Paw and Paws on Pine to name two, this event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 26th at 2 PM at the South Street Seaport. In addition to adorable pets in costume, there are wonderful prizes to be won by entering their costume contest. To enter, head down to the Seaport or use hashtag #SEEPAWS on Twitter or Instagram.

Adopt a Shelter Dog Event - 10/13 in NYC!

October is National "Adopt a Shelter Dog" Month, and Animal Planet, Petfinder and Animal Haven are celebrating with a special event in NYC on Saturday, October 13th. From 12 to 3 PM, stop by the Animal Haven Soho location to meet a potential new best furry friend! Almost 200,000 dogs are still waiting for their forever home, which is why adoption is such a great option when considering adding a four-legged friend to your family.

In addition to meeting and greeting adoptable dogs, Animal Planet will be giving away free dog toys to the first 60 attendees and raffling off gift baskets.

Believe it or not: Take Your Dog to Ripley's Times Square 8/26

Beefy, the Upper West Side skateboarding dog. We kid you not.

Looking to beat the heat this weekend with your pooch? To celebrate National Dog Day (this Sunday, August 26th), Ripley's Times Square in NYC is offering free admission to dogs and their owners to the Odditorium.

Can you believe it or not? (Ha. I know, bad joke...)

While we normally avoid Times Square at all costs, we have a feeling that Paddy would kind of have a good time. And if Woolly Mammoth Teeth and the "World's largest collection of authentic shrunken heads" aren't enough, "Beefy" the Upper West Side skateboarding bulldog will also be cruising around the museum from 12 pm to 5 pm on his skateboard. Snacks and treats will be provided for four-legged guests.

To redeem your free admission, head to Ripley's Times Square on Sunday with your dog -- one free adult ticket, pet pet. And don't forget a leash, all dogs must be leashed inside the museum.

Pet Socialite NYC Holiday Pop-Up Shop

What could be more fun than shopping for holiday gifts for furry friends WITH your favorite anipal?!

This Friday, we swung by the press preview of Pet Socialite's Holiday Pop-Up Shop! Located at 19 Kenmare Street (Kenmare and Elizabeth), this cozy SoHo space has been outfitted with chic holiday gifts for the deserving pups in your life.  Including picks from vendors like FouFouDog, Jax and Bones, Pet Flys and more, the shop has something for every pup on your list. Everything is priced to be wallet-friendly too (yay).

Open all weekend from 11AM-6PM, pet expert and hostess Charlotte Reed will be hosting two days of holiday activities, including : "Color Me Beautiful" pet fur-coloring classes, Holiday Etiquette with Miss Fido Manners, and Art-Casso Dog Painting!

Howl-o-Ween at The Salty Paw!

If you're still finalizing your Halloween plans for the weekend, make sure to add The Salty Paw's Howl-o-ween Party to your list of things to do! Our favorite NYC one-stop shop for all things doggy will be hosting a costume party on October 31st from 5-7 PM at their store on Peck Street down at the South Street Seaport. Trixie & Peanut Doggie Designer Sale!

Very few things make us as excited as a good sample sale!

Trixe & Peanut's bi-annual Doggie Designer Sample Sale is DEFINITELY something that should be on any responsible Barkista's calendar. 

From October 15th thru the 17th, this posh purveyor of puppy accessories and attire will be offering up to 60% off of merchandise from brands like Ella Dish, and Haute Diggity Dog. While it can be a little bit of a madhouse, it's totally worth it-- in the past we've scored great deals on winter coats and carriers. Our advice is to go early during the sale and make sure to bring your pup for sizing as all sale items are non-returnable.

A must for any bargain hunting hounds and their owners.

Meet the Breeds in NYC!

Attention NYC dog and cat lovers-- advance tickets for the American Kennel Club's Meet the Breeds event are now available online! The annual event will be held in NYC October 16th and 17th from 10 am to 5 pm at the Jacob Javits Center. Stop by to enjoy over 200 booths that allow you to get up and close and personal with a variety of dogs and cats. A great meetup for prospective pet companions who are doing their homework researching different breeds, the event is also attended by vendors and features obedience, agility, grooming, and talent demonstrations.

Tickets purchased before October 15th are $12.00 each and $8.00 for children under the age of $12 (after the 15th and the day of the event they'll be $15 for adults and $10 for children).
